アメリカらしい興味深いメールがあったので紹介します。

UCSFでは、医学科の学生過程で、優れた研究をした医学生に "MD with Distinction（MDwD） " という称号みたいなものを与えるというプログラムがあり、
下記のメールは、 臨床研究および橋渡し研究分野（Clinical and Translational Research：CTR ）における MDwDプログラム運営のチーフを、UCSFの職員から募集しているのですが、

仕事内容は、プログラムの運営と論文の審査だそうで、年間3000-4000ドル（約30万円）の謝礼を出すと書いています。
15－20人の学生がこのプログラムに参加し、彼らの論文を審査するのだそうです。

もちろんこれは本職でなく、大学の助教をしている人が、掛け持ちの片手間でやる仕事です。
おそらくは、けっこう面倒な仕事ではあると思います。
でも、会議に出て論文の審査をして、何ももらえないより、30万円もらえた方がいいに決まってますよね。
日本でこういうものを学内で運営するとなれば、謝礼金は発生しないと思います。

アメリカの大学の仕組みって、隅から隅までお金です。
面倒な役職には、それなりの対価が与えられているのは、合理的ではあると思います。

Leadership Position Announcement: Chair of the MD with Distinction Program for the CTR Pathway

The Clinical and Translational Research (CTR) Pathway of UCSF’s Pathways to Discovery Program is pleased to announce the availability of a leadership position: Chair of the MD with Distinction (MDwD) Program for the CTR Pathway.
 
The Chair will establish and maintain the processes of the MDwD Program and will oversee approval of all manuscripts produced as part of the Program. Annual compensation will depend on the number of students enrolled in the Program but is anticipated to be about $3,000 to $4,000 per year. Some administrative support will be available through the Pathways to Discovery Program. Additional details of the position are attached.
 
Faculty members from all Schools are eligible to apply. Expertise in clinical and translational research is essential. To apply, send a recent curriculum vitae and a short paragraph explaining your interest in this position
